New Launch Amazon Cloud Storage Service for U.S. Spy Agencies

The Amazon cloud storage service will be supplied to the intelligence community via an accessible $600M contract with U.S. intelligence agencies. This is what made the Amazon a leading player in federal IT contracting. This is awesome.
It was announced on Monday by the Amazon’s cloud storage unit that new service known as Amazon Web Services Secret Region will be released. The Amazon cloud storage service is designed in order to handle confidential data for the U.S spy agencies.
The Amazon Web Services VP – Carlson revealed that “The U.S. Intelligence Community can now execute their missions with a common set of tools, a constant flow of the latest technology and the flexibility to rapidly scale with the mission”.
CIA, Chief Information Officer; John Edwards stated in a statement sent by Amazon Web Services where he describes the new cloud service as “a key component of the Intel community’s multi-fabric cloud strategy.”

Amazon reveals that the Amazon cloud storage service is the “only commercial cloud provider to offer regions to serve government workloads across the full range of data classifications, including unclassified, sensitive, secret and top secret.”
Announcement of the new cloud storage comes at a moment the Amazon’s business and government customers are under powerful analysis over whether they are storing information securely in the cloud. The Amazon’s cloud-based folders known as “buckets” have been at the center of several prestigious safekeeping incidents in recent months. The incident makes their customers unintentionally left sensitive information on an Amazon server in an unsecured format.
In May 2017, a cybersecurity researcher revealed that a Booz Allen Hamilton contractor working at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency had left insightful government data online in an AWS bucket without protecting it with passphrase.

Booz Allen Hamilton lamented it at that time that one of Amazon employees was responsible for the information leaked to the public.
In June, which is a month later, the same researcher found a similar at a contractor employed by the Republican National Committee had left millions of voters’ personal data freely available online as well as in Amazon cloud bucket. The 3rd incident which involves the Defense Department was also reported by CNN on Friday.
Chris Vickery, whose company Upguard was guilty for all 3 findings, said the responsibility for securing cloud-based data fall mainly to the companies using Amazon Web Services for cloud services, and not to Amazon Company. He also said he contemplates Amazon Web Services could do further to make stronger protection into the Amazon cloud storage service.
